Luckily Moon Hooch will be illuminating Burlington this Friday the 13th, filling everyone with joy not an actual full moon. For all that do not know who Moon Hooch is don't worry I just found out about them a couple of months ago through my good friends. This troop consists of three young gentlemen who met whilst attending The New School for Jazz and Contemporary in New York City. Creating new and unusual sounds with their two saxophonists; Mike Wilbur and Wenzl McGowen along with their drummer James Muschler. I wouldn't consider this your average electronic dance music, more like jagged, raw cave music. Producing synthetic sounds with their acoustic musical machines making for a feel good atmosphere. From starting to perform in subways, waterfronts and wherever else they eventually got spotted by Mike Doughty who asked the troop to help open his national tour.
Once the people started to dig Moon Hooch they got asked to play shows above ground hitting different gigs and eventually at Summer festivals. Moon Hooch hopes to replace anything synthetic with creative organic sound. Personally I can't say much about them, but trust me they are so funky and futuristic. No manufactured beat, all primitive sounds coming right from the soul. If this sparks any interest to you I suggest going to see them this Friday in South Burlington, Vermont at Higher Ground. Doors open at 8:30, purchase your ticket before hand for an extra three dollars off!
